Golf CoursesThere are two courses on Ascension, The Georgetown nine-hole and the One Boat eighteen hole. The Georgetown course is the elder, I believe the first two holes were laid out in 1905. It is this course that is reputed to have been described by the Royal and Ancient at St Andrews as the worst in the world. This was between the wars, long before the One Boat course was started in 1966 or thereabouts. Whatever the truth is, both courses can be seen as evidence that some people are just determined to play some form of golf whatever the circumstances! I played my first ever round of golf on the Georgetown course in 1967. It must have made an impact, as I didn't play another until 1994! For some reason when I took these pictures I was using slide film, and over the years these have developed a few blemishes. Please accept my apologies for these. If, after some ten years, I have mis-identified any of these pictures, I'd be glad to hear from anyone with their correct identification. With the exception of the first picture, all of these photos were taken on One boat golf course.
